Coos Bay Railroad Bridge - Phase II Rehabilitation

In February 2005, the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay completed Phase I of a long-planned rail bridge rehabilitation.  Total project costs for engineering and construction was approximately $6.73 million, with funding from the federal government through the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), the Oregon Economic & Community Development Department, the Coos County (North Bay) Urban Renewal Agency and the Regional Investment Board.  Phase I consisted of repair and replacement of structural steel components, rebuilding of a support pier and installation of a new fendering system for two piers.

Phase II will consist of additional structural steel repair and replacement, application of a protective coating system and other work as needed.  Estimated cost of Phase II is $12 million.

Project Status:  The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Port staff prepared a mini-Request for Proposal for engineering services and project oversight.  The mini RFP was prepared based on six prequalified engineering firms through ODOT.  Bid documents were prepared for final submittal due on April 28, 2008.  Two engineering firms participated in the mandatory walk through of the site that was conducted on April 16, 2008.   The Port received one proposal for the RFP. The Port and ODOT will have 90 days to review the bid document for acceptance or and then the decision for the construction bid process can move forward at that time.
